16 Nov 2008, 12 members from Henderson Taekwondo participated Padded Weapon workshop known as Sports Chanbara, organized by Stiletto TKD conducted by the Samurai Sports Singapore at Tahman Jurong CC.  Practiced with padded focus stick, players are able to spar easily and train at 100 percent of their strength and speed, without fear of pain or injury, while capturing all rigors of the full-contact experience.

Students have learnt the basic commands of the art such as the bow, drawing of the weapon and some of the basic foundation rules, such as paying respect to the weapon, and not misusing it to harm others or oneself. This is done by placing the weapon on either the lap or next to the person. The importance of the art is to strike the other opponent first to disarm or kill the opponent. They were also taught that each and every weapon should be treated as sharp and dangerous, so that we will respect it more by not holding it in the wrong manner and cause injury.

In this competition, students were introduced to the rules of actual sparring. There will be 3 judges in the ring where they will display which opponent (red or black) achieved a point. If 2 judges display the result with raised chanbara colour, a point will be awarded to the player. Leaving the ring will result in a penalty point awarded to the opponent. If both players clash the first time, 1 point will be awarded to each.
